Meet Barbera Olio

At Bonobono, we are proud to feature Manfredi Barbera & Figli S.p.A., a distinguished Sicilian olive oil company founded in 1894 by Lorenzo Barbera.

Today, it stands as one of the most renowned producers on the international stage, synonymous with quality and tradition.

A Passion for Sicily and Olive Cultivation

The essence of Manfredi Barbera is a deep-rooted love for Sicily, combined with a passion for olive cultivation and the latest technological advancements. This unique blend has resulted in products that have become true ambassadors of Sicilian quality worldwide. The company serves as the heart of the Manfredi Barbera Group, which includes six other companies, each specialising in distinct areas of operation.

Heritage and Innovation

The historic headquarters is located in the heart of Palermo, within the iconic Palazzo Benso on Via E. Amari. Meanwhile, the modern production facility in Custonaci, Trapani, is equipped with state-of-the-art production systems designed to uphold the highest standards of quality.

Sicily: The Heart of Production

Sicily is at the core of Manfredi Barbera’s identity. The company has identified over ten regions within the island that are ideally suited for olive cultivation, focusing on native cultivars. Each phase of cultivation is meticulously monitored to ensure the highest quality of olives. The careful selection of olive-growing areas and the attention to detail throughout the processing stages have led to the creation of unique oils certified under protected designation of origin (PDO) and organic farming standards.

Broader Italian Roots

In addition to its Sicilian roots, Manfredi Barbera has expanded its commitment to quality by embracing the age-old traditions of other regions renowned for their olive oil production, such as Puglia and Calabria. These regions, along with Sicily, share a Mediterranean heritage that elevates their collective contribution to high-quality olive oil.

Environmental Impact Assessment

Manfredi Barbera & Figli S.p.A. has conducted a comprehensive study to evaluate the environmental impact of its extra virgin olive oil throughout its entire life cycle, encompassing the following phases:

  1. Cultivation and Harvesting of Olives
The olives are primarily cultivated in the Custonaci region. All farms within the supply chain are certified for organic production.
  2. Milling
The olives are milled at Orobelice S.r.l. and Manfredi Barbera & Figli S.p.A. mills located in Trapani. The Manfredi Barbera mill employs an experimental facility with four different milling systems.
  3. Production and Packaging
The oil produced is packaged at the Manfredi Barbera facility. The Barbera Extra Virgin Olive Oil represents not only a product of exceptional quality but also the company's commitment to environmental sustainability. Manfredi Barbera & Figli S.p.A. adopts sustainable practices at every stage of production, from olive cultivation to the distribution of the final product, contributing to reduced environmental impact and promoting sustainable development.

Innovative Pressing Techniques

The company boasts a unique experimental mill that revolutionises olive oil production through research and experimentation. The selection, cleaning, and crushing of olives occur in an external area to maintain a pristine environment for the oil extraction process. Remarkably, no other company in the world offers five different olive milling systems, including disc milling, hammer milling, opposed stone rollers, de-pitting, and parallel disc and hammer systems.

At Bonobono, we celebrate the exceptional craftsmanship and dedication of Manfredi Barbera & Figli S.p.A., sharing their exquisite olive oils that reflect the rich heritage and innovative spirit of Sicily.
