Meet OddBird

Founded in 2013 by Moa Gürbüzer, Odd Bird is dedicated to challenging societal norms surrounding alcohol.

With over twenty years of experience as a family therapist, Moa's work exposed her to the negative impacts of alcohol on families, motivating her to create a brand that offers premium beverages free from alcohol. Odd Bird aims to make the question, “Would you like your wine with or without alcohol?” as common as asking about milk in coffee. Today, Odd Bird proudly stands as Scandinavia’s leading producer of non-alcoholic wines, beers, and spirits.

Starting a business in a male-dominated industry posed numerous challenges for Odd Bird. Moa and her team had to learn everything from branding and sales to liquid development and packaging from the ground up. Securing financial support was also difficult, as banks often refused loans to women-led businesses. Despite these obstacles, Odd Bird has achieved remarkable growth over its 11 years, establishing a global presence.

The brand’s success is rooted in its commitment to quality. By collaborating with winemakers who respect tradition and nature, Odd Bird creates wines that are matured for up to 12 months and then gently liberated from alcohol through a unique process. This method preserves the natural flavours and aromas, ensuring that each product is a premium beverage rather than just an alternative to alcoholic wines.

Odd Bird not only aims to create exceptional beverages but also seeks to spark a social movement that normalises non-alcoholic options. The brand has experienced significant demand, notably a 500% increase in non-alcoholic wine sales at Systembolaget, Sweden’s monopoly drinks retailer. Recognition came in 2016 when King Carl XVI Gustaf awarded Moa an entrepreneurship award, which bolstered the brand's credibility and supported its international expansion.

Innovating continuously, Odd Bird has made strides in the alcohol-free segment, becoming the first in the world to produce alcohol-free natural wine from grapes sourced from Alsace’s finest vineyards. With plans to introduce new products across various categories in autumn 2024, Odd Bird is committed to exploring and enhancing the alcohol-free experience.

In essence, Odd Bird represents a movement towards healthier social norms regarding alcohol consumption. Through high-quality, alcohol-liberated beverages, the brand is reshaping societal expectations and offering inclusive choices for all.
