At Bonobono, we take pride in showcasing Ferrero, a brand steeped in family tradition and culinary excellence.
From its modest beginnings in a small pasticceria in Alba, Italy, Ferrero has blossomed into a global powerhouse, embodying three generations of passion and expertise that underpin its portfolio of beloved brands.
A Legacy of Passion and Innovation
The Ferrero Group's narrative is one of resilience and creativity, deeply rooted in the heart of Piedmont. Founded in 1946 by brothers Pietro and Giovanni Ferrero, the company began its journey in their family’s quaint pastry shop, where they crafted products that would soon become synonymous with the Ferrero name. Pietro, the visionary innovator, cultivated a spirit of experimentation, earning him the affectionate title of "the scientist" among his peers. His relentless pursuit of new flavours and textures laid the groundwork for his son, Michele Ferrero, to establish the iconic company we cherish today.
In parallel, Giovanni’s commercial acumen enabled the creation of a national sales network, facilitating Michele's efforts to introduce and test novel creations across Italy. This synergy of innovation and commerce propelled Ferrero to become one of the world's foremost sweet-packaged food companies, boasting over 35 cherished brands, including Kinder®, Nutella®, Ferrero Rocher®, and Tic Tac®, enjoyed by consumers in more than 170 countries.
From Local Artisan to Global Icon
Ferrero’s journey from local origins to international acclaim began with its pioneering expansion beyond Italy shortly after World War II. In 1956, the company established its first production site in Germany, swiftly followed by a facility in France. This strategic growth set the stage for Ferrero’s expansive presence across Europe, North and South America, Africa, Australia, and Southeast Asia.
Today, still a family-owned enterprise in its third generation, Ferrero continues to thrive by honouring its legacy while embracing innovation. This dedication has led to the introduction of new products and the addition of esteemed brands such as Thorntons, Eat Natural, and Fulfil to its illustrious family.
The Enchantment of Alba
Alba, a picturesque town nestled in Italy's Piedmont region, was designated a United Nations city of creative gastronomy in 2017, celebrated for its exceptional hazelnuts, exquisite wines, and the illustrious white truffle. The town’s recognition also highlights the 'Slow Food' movement, which champions food quality, environmental stewardship, and equitable practices for producers and consumers alike.
As Giovanni Ferrero eloquently states, “I have a remarkable story to share about Nutella: it is my family’s story.” Following World War II, when chocolate was a luxury few could afford, Giovanni's grandfather sought to craft an affordable chocolate alternative using the abundant local hazelnuts. This pursuit birthed a revolutionary recipe, Super Crema, which would eventually evolve into Nutella, launched in 1964—the very year Giovanni was born.
At Bonobono, we celebrate Ferrero not merely as a brand but as a testament to family heritage, dedication to quality, and a commitment to the culinary arts that enrich our lives and palates.
