At Bonobono, we are proud to share the remarkable story of the Contono brothers, Antonino and Luciano Contorno, whose legacy began in 1916 and continues to thrive today.
The cornerstone of their family history is Don Antonino, a figure of undeniable charisma who embodied the spirit of adventure and exploration. His vision came to life alongside Luciano as they established their company, adopting the rooster as their emblem—a symbol of pride and a celebration of their heritage.
The journey of the Contono brothers was not without its challenges. The outbreak of the Second World War in 1939 brought significant upheaval to Sicily, affecting the social fabric and forcing women, children, and the elderly to tend to the fields. Despite the destruction that bombings wrought upon Palermo, where nearly half of the buildings were rendered unusable, the Contorno company persevered. Don Antonino faced immense obstacles, including shortages of raw materials like tinplate and glass bottles. Yet, through determination and resourcefulness, he earned the prestigious Knight's Cross of the Crown of Italy for his achievements.
Today, F.lli Contorno is guided by Gaetano and Noemi Contorno, who bring fresh perspectives and skills to the company. Gaetano, as Export Manager, ensures that their authentic Sicilian preserves reach international markets, while Noemi, as HR Manager, nurtures a dedicated team aligned with the company's values. Their mission is clear: to celebrate the beauty of authentic culinary traditions and share them with the world.
At Bonobono, we proudly feature the exceptional products of F.lli Contorno, crafted with care to delight the palate and nourish the soul. Their commitment to quality, sustainability, and innovation echoes our own values, making them a perfect partner in our journey to bring the best of plant-based offerings to our customers.
